These arrivals, facilitated by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, are set to disperse across approximately 33 communities nationwide, including Edmonton, Toronto, and various locales in Quebec.
Since the fall of Kabul, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has overseen the transfer of over 49,000 Afghan citizens to Canada, underscoring the country’s commitment to aiding vulnerable populations fleeing Afghanistan’s turmoil.
In July 2021, as the Taliban’s grip on Afghanistan tightened, the Canadian government instituted special immigration measures targeting former Canadian government employees and associates of the Canadian Armed Forces, including military interpreters, alongside their families.
While thousands await transfer completion in Pakistan, Tajikistan, and the United Arab Emirates, precise figures remain undisclosed due to safety and security considerations. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada emphasizes the vulnerability of Afghan populations, thereby limiting public disclosure.
Collaborating with the United States and the United Arab Emirates, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada explores avenues to facilitate further air travel out of Afghanistan, subject to rigorous security screenings prior to Canadian-bound journeys.
