Islamabad (Kubha News)—Amidst a surge in militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtonkhwa and Baluchistan, US CENTCOM Commander, General Michael Erik Kurilla, engaged in talks with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir, focusing on regional security and defense cooperation.

According to the Pakistani military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting addressed matters of mutual interest, regional security, and defense cooperation.

The discussions come in the wake of the US State Department’s reiteration of its ability to conduct independent operations against militants in the Pakistan-Afghanistan region, irrespective of Taliban assurances.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized, “We will hold them to their commitments… we retain the ability to conduct our own operations in the region.”

US Central Command, in a statement, highlighted the talks with Pakistani counterparts, emphasizing counterterrorism efforts and the enduring military partnership between the two countries.

The leaders of the two countries also reviewed the recent Inspired Union 2024 naval exercise, explored future opportunities, and discussed shared responsibilities in addressing security challenges.

During his visit to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, General Kurilla met with Pakistan’s 11th Corps, Frontier Corps, and 7th Division to discuss counterterrorism operations along the Durand Line.

“I look forward to continuing to strengthen our seven decades plus military-to-military partnership,” said General Kurilla, underscoring the commitment to collaboration between the United States and Pakistan.
