Kabul (Kubha News) – Following the recent election of Pakistan’s new president, the Taliban government has voiced optimism for enhanced security measures and strengthened relations with Islamabad.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban government, conveyed these sentiments during an interview with Afghanistan National Radio and Television, stating, “We hope that the new government of Pakistan will prioritize maintaining relations with Kabul for the mutual benefit of both nations.”
Asif Ali Zardari, the Pakistan People’s Party candidate, secured the presidency on Saturday, March 09, garnering the majority of votes in the country’s parliament and provincial assemblies. Despite facing competition from Mehmod Khan Achakzai, head of the Pakhtunkhwa Awami Milli Party, Zardari clinched victory with 255 votes.
In his remarks, Mujahid underscored the importance of fostering ‘good economic and diplomatic relations’ with Pakistan’s new government. He urged Islamabad to demonstrate flexibility regarding Afghan refugees within its borders and facilitate their movement, emphasizing the Taliban government’s earnest commitment to this cause.
However, tensions escalated hours after Zardari’s election, as Pakistani soldiers clashed with Taliban forces along the Durand Line. The skirmish unfolded late yesterday near Babrak Tana in the Alishir district of Khost province, persisting for several hours.
