Berlin (Kubha News): European Parliament members expressed grave concern over the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan, passing a resolution condemning the Taliban’s egregious actions.

EU members emphasized the destruction of the justice system and the exclusion of women and girls from public life, demanding their immediate restoration of rights. MEPs insisted that any EU engagement with the Taliban must adhere to strict conditions set by the Council and UN Special Rapporteur recommendations.

The resolution underscores Parliament’s support for Afghan civil society’s plea to hold the de-facto authorities accountable for their crimes. EU Parliament endorses the initiation of an International Criminal Court investigation and advocates for the establishment of a UN Independent Investigative Mechanism.

Furthermore, the resolution calls for the expansion of EU restrictive measures to bolster efforts in ensuring accountability and justice.

The resolution, backed by 513 votes in favor, 9 against, and 24 abstentions.
