Kabul (Kubha News)— A delegation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has been in Kabul for the past two days, engaging in discussions with high-ranking officials of the Taliban government concerning women’s rights, human rights, and girls’ education.
Led by Dr. Tariq Ali Bakhit, Deputy of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for humanitarian, cultural, and social affairs, and representing the Secretary General of the OIC for Afghanistan, the delegation comprises predominantly women. Among them are Dr. Noura Al-Roshoud, Executive Director of the Human Rights Commission; Amina Al-Hujairi, General Director of Cultural, Social, and Internal Affairs; and Afnan Al-Shoeibi, Executive Director of the Women’s Development Organization.
According to a source from the Taliban’s foreign ministry who spoke to Kubha News, the discussions with the OIC delegation have primarily focused on the restoration of women’s rights and the education of girls in accordance with Islamic Sharia. The objective is to reintegrate Afghanistan into the Islamic and global community.
The Taliban officials also requested the transfer of Afghanistan’s seat in the OIC to their government and proposed sending their representative to the organization’s 15th meeting in Gambia.
Recently, the OIC appointed a special representative for Kabul and has chosen to channel its development projects in Afghanistan through Turkey’s TIKA organization and Azerbaijan’s development organizations rather than directly engaging with the Taliban.
The OIC delegation plans to meet with additional Taliban leaders, possibly including the group’s spiritual leader, Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, who has previously declined meetings with delegations from the Islamic world.
