Berlin (Kubha News) – German police have arrested two Afghan citizens on charges of having connections with the ISIS group.
German federal police said that the court in the city of Thüringen on March 5 formally accused Ibrahim and Ramin, two Afghan citizens of being associated with the ISK branch of ISIS, and they were arrested on Wednesday, March 19, in the Gera area.
In a statement, the German federal police said that these two individuals had previously been involved in committing crimes and officially joined the Khorasan branch of the ISIS group in August 2023.
Ibrahim and Ramin are accused of collecting donations totaling two thousand euros in Germany before joining the ISK and sending it to ISIS prisoners in northern Syria.
The German federal police reported that the ISK had assigned Ramin the task of planning a terrorist attack in response to the burning of the Quran in Sweden in the spring of 2023.
Police investigations show that Ibrahim and Ramin intended to carry out this attack on police and ordinary people in the vicinity of the Swedish Parliament, but they were unsuccessful.
The two Afghan citizens appeared in the court of Thüringen today, Tuesday, and the judge formally announced the court’s ruling to them.
Their next trial is scheduled to be held in the coming weeks, and upon finalization of the court ruling, they will be sentenced to prison.
The Khorasan branch of the ISIS group, which occasionally claims responsibility for some terrorist attacks in Asian countries, claims to have been active in Afghanistan since 2020.
This comes as US intelligence agencies recently told Congress that the Khorasan branch of the ISIS group seeks to delegitimize the Taliban government and challenge Taliban rule by carrying out attacks on foreign interests and objectives.
Previously, the United Nations Security Council’s sanctions monitoring committee had reported that the ISK has four to six thousand fighters in Afghanistan and operates in thirteen provinces of Afghanistan.
However, the Taliban government claims that this group has been severely suppressed and does not have the capability to carry out terrorist activities.
