Washington (March 11, 2024, Kubha News) 25 American intelligence agencies known as the “Intelligence Community” have released analysis of existing threats to the United States, stating that ISIS Khorasan branch (ISK) will carry out more attacks in Afghanistan this year.
In this assessment, which enumerates potential threats to US security and interests worldwide for the current year, found that While al-Qa‘ida has reached an operational nadir in Afghanistan, but conversely, the threat from ISIS is considered more serious.
It is assessed that the ISK aims to expand attacks on the interests of foreign countries in Afghanistan to portray the Taliban government as weak. However, interests of a specific country threatened by ISIS are not mentioned in the report.
U.S. intelligence community assessment states that the Taliban will strengthen their control over Afghanistan through continued repressive actions and will focus on engaging with the international community in the current year.
The assessment by American intelligence agencies indicates that the level of threat from internal armed opposition groups to the Taliban government is very low, as the people of Afghanistan are weary of war and the armed opposition groups lack strong leadership and external support.
Officials from these 25 American intelligence agencies stated during the presentation of details of this assessment to a congressional hearing on Tuesday, March 11, that regional powers will endeavor to keep the existing problems in Afghanistan within the country’s borders and not spread to other countries, but they will also exercise caution in dealing with the Taliban’s desire for recognition of their government.
