Washington (Kubha News)- In an urgent session convened by the United Nations Security Council, Secretary General Antonio Guterres delivered a warning, cautioning that the Middle East teeters on the brink of a catastrophic conflict.
The emergency meeting was prompted by Israel’s plea following a recent attack by Iran, heightening already strained relations in the region.
Guterres implored all involved parties to take decisive action to de-escalate tensions, emphasizing the grave threat posed to the people of the Middle East.
“The looming specter of a full-scale war threatens the stability of the entire region,” Guterres stated, urging both Iran and Israel to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue.
Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, condemned Iran’s actions, labeling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity and advocating for measures to counter its influence.

Erdan further accused Iran of fueling conflict by supporting militant groups such as Hezbollah across the Middle East.
In response, Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, defended Tehran’s recent actions as acts of self-defense, asserting that Iran seeks neither crisis nor escalation in the region.

The recent escalation saw Iran launch a barrage of long-range rockets and suicide drones towards Israel on Sunday, prompting fears of further retaliation.
While Iran’s half state media, Tasnim, claimed the strikes targeted only military installations, Israel’s Ministry of Defense confirmed intercepting over two hundred projectiles, thwarting a significant portion before they reached their intended targets.
